What is a fire door?

Fire doors are known as passive fire safety systems, which focus on containing a fire and preventing it from spreading further. Suitable for domestic and commercial buildings, fire doors for external and internal use are manufactured with a solid core and are made of materials that are slow to burn, fire doors meet fire door regulations such as FD30 (Fire Door 30 Minute). This means that they can withstand flames and prevent the spread of smoke for 30 minutes longer than a standard door.

Are fire doors a legal requirement?

Building regulations dictate that fire doors are legally required in commercial buildings such as offices, schools and hospitals. In addition, they are also required in domestic settings that are a part of a block of flats above two levels, where a door leads into an integral garage and in houses with loft conversions.
